United Way's "Day of Caring" Brings Needed Help to CLO

This year's Day of Caring in Douglas County took place on Saturday, May 6th. Another fantastic effort from our volunteer friends helped many CLO homes with landscaping, cleaning and power washing projects. On behalf of the men, women and children with disabilities, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the volunteers from Lawrence Church of Christ, Sigma Kappa Fraternity and the hard working students of LHS. THANK YOU!
"Day of Caring" in Overland Park gains momentum: The 2006 event brings another great effort by our volunteer friends!
June 24th, 2006
More than 200 volunteers from six businesses, five government agencies and a church provided much needed help for several important CLO projects. DLR Group Architecture firm and the US Department of Agriculture combined their efforts once again in order to complete an elaborate recreational space behind Mastin House. This project was designed by DLR and includes paved walking trails, outdoor exercise stations, two raised planter beds and a picnic area. Volunteers from the U.S. Drug and Food Administration and members of the Church of jesus christ of Latter-day Saints also participated in this project.
Parker House also benefited from the Day of caring as hard working employees of The National Bank of Kansas City and the Federal Emergency Management Agency joined forces to spruce up the home inside and out. Panhandle eastern Pipe Line Company and the U.S. Department of Transportation - federal Aviation Administration did likewise around the yard at Marty Lane House. More landscaping and yard clean-up was done at Conser, Grandview Lane and Southpark houses, thanks to volunteers from the bank of Blue valley, The General Services Administration and Adams-Gabbert and Associates. Employees of the law firm Blackwell, Sanders, Peper, Martin worked on improvements to the playground and also painted at the Johnson County Montessori Preschool, which CLO owns. The impact of the June 24th Day of Caring is nothing short of impressive. The total value of contributed donations, services, materials and labor is estimated in the thousands of dollars. CLO is extremely grateful to the hundreds of volunteers whose participation in the Day of Caring made a truly meaningful difference in the lives of men, women and children with disabilities served by the agency.
